Introduction

Powder Horn is a resource course designed to introduce Scouting’s adult leaders and youth to the exciting program possibilities for their unit.  After completing this course, the participants should have sufficient introductory information to:

  • Provide a robust outdoor program using a variety of resources
  • Identify local resources & consultants for high-adventure activities
  • Apply the health & safety requirements of the BSA to outdoor programs
  • Apply the rules & regulations of the BSA as they apply to outdoor programs

Participants will be exposed to resources & programming in the following areas:

Archery, Shooting Sports, Leave No Trace, Water Sports, Canoeing, Fishing, Orienteering, Geocaching, COPE, Climbing, Caving and much more!

(No participant has to participate in any activity in which they feel uncomfortable.)

 

Who may Attend Powder Horn?

 

    Any adult registered in the BSA

    Any youth who is at least 14 years of age (or

13 and has completed the eighth grade, if part of a Venturing Crew).

What's required of a PH Participant?

 

Prior to attending the Powder Horn Course, each Youth Participant MUST

  • Be 14 years of age (or have joined a Venturing Crew if 13 years of age and completed eighth grade)
  • Have completed the unit’s version of leadership training (ex. ILSC or ILST)
  • Complete Youth Protection, Hazardous Weather training,Safety Afloat,Safe Swim Defense,Climb on Safety(Courses offered online at myscouting.org)
  • Meet the physical requirements contained in the Annual Health & Medical Record physical in a backcountry environment

Prior to attending the Powder Horn Course, each

Youth Participant MUST:

About our Facilities

Camp La-No-Che is located in Central Florida about 40 miles north of downtown Orlando.

Participant Fee Schedule

    Total Fee $205

    $50 non-refundable deposit due with application

    Final payment for Powder Horn Course must be received by March 20, 2017.

    Fees include training materials and meals

    Written requests for refunds must be received by March 20, 2017

    Early Registration Before February 1, 2017 there is a Discount Full Pre-Paid cost of

$195.00

 

Trained leaders retain 17% more youth than the untrained leader.
